About this author
William Oughtred is listed as the author of "Mathematical Recreations". This book is an English translation from the French and went through three editions: 1633, 1653 and 1674. The 1653 and 1674 editions have a 16-page part on ”The description and use of the double Horizontall Dyall, Invented and written by William Oughtred”, with a separate title page added at the end. The addition of this part is listed on the front page which gives the false impression that William Oughtred was responsible for the translation or even as the author. This is a misunderstanding.
